Odisha Govt To Provide Special Grants To Colleges & Universities For Scheme On Students

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has decided to provide special grants to its colleges and universities under the scheme to encourage the students to take active participation in sports, culture and social work.

According to sources, the Higher Education department will sanction the funds to government colleges, government aided colleges and universities depending on their student strength for the scheme under Integrated Youth Development Programme (IYDP).

Under the scheme, each higher educational institution having a student strength of more than 2,000 will get a grant of Rs 9 lakh to promote these activities.

The institutions with a student strength of 1,000 to 2,000 will qualify to get Rs 6 lakh and those having student strength of 50-1,000 will be granted Rs 4 lakh.

The colleges and universities with student strength of 200-500 will get Rs 3 lakh and those with 100-150 strength will be sanctioned Rs 1.5 lakh, the sources said.

It may be noted that Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Minister of Higher Education, had told the media after a high-level meeting on the scheme on Friday, that it would cover 687 higher education institutions across the state.

The educational institutions will organise competitions among the students in the field of sports, culture and social work related activities from November 15 to December 31. Later, youth festivals will be organised under the scheme at the district and state levels.
