Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday made it clear that it will procure more paddy from the registered farmers.
Making a statement in the Assembly in reply to a question by Congress member Santosh Singh Saluja, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare minister Ranendra Pratap Swain said the government has fixed the procurement of paddy at 54 lakh tonne during the Kharif season this year.
But, the total 56.67 lakh tonne of paddy had been procured till Tuesday, he added.
He said that the minister of the department concerned is empowered to raise the procurement target.
