Bhubaneswar: In view of the COVID-19 pandemic in Odisha, the state government has decided to reduce the school syllabi.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, School and Mass Education minister Samir Ranjan Dash said that considering the prevailing situation in the state, the Chief Minister has given the permission to reduce the syllabi.

Asked about the specific percentage of syllabi to be slashed, he said while the CBSE has announced a 30 per cent reduction in the syllabus, the state government will soon take a decision in this regard. But as it is not decided as to when the schools will reopen, it will be difficult to say about the volume of reduction of the syllabus at the moment.

The minister also said that the State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) and the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) have formed an expert committee to decide on the volume of syllabi to be reduced.

While the SCERT expert committee will take a decision for the students of Class I to Class X, the CHSE committee will take the calls for the Plus II streams.

“The two committees have already begun the process and once it is finalised, we will inform the media,” he pointed out.
