Odisha Govt To Rename ‘Mo Bus’ As ‘Ama Bus’, Install CCTV Cameras

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is planning to change the name of ‘Mo Bus’ amid growing concerns over frequent mishaps involving vehicles plying under the service.

Giving this information, Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra said that the buses operating under the public transport system will soon see a change of name change. ‘Mo Bus’ service is going to be renamed ‘Ama Bus’, he said.

The Minister said that the name is proposed to be change in order to present the fleet as that of the community. By changing the name to ‘Ama Bus’, the government is trying to impart a touch of inclusivity to the fleet, he said.

Stating that the name Mo Bus implied a sense of personal ownership, which can be translated to arrogance or ego, Mohapatra said the present administration is a people’s government. Therefore, there should be a sense of community sharing in public initiatives.

Apart from changing the name, the state government is taking steps to upgrade safety mechanism following a series of accidents. The new measures will include the installation of front and rear cameras to capture real-time footage during mishaps. This will aid in ensuring accountability and identifying responsible parties.

Guardian systems like Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) will also be installed. The system will monitor driver alertness, with technology in place to sound alarms and bring vehicles to a halt if drivers show signs of fatigue or fall asleep.
