Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday attended the Srimad Bhagabat Mahotsav in Bhubaneswar and said that the scripture should be available in every household in the state.
Speaking at the event organised at Terapanth Bhawan by the Dharma Jagruti Samiti, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reviving Bhagabata Tungi in every village and making the teachings of the Srimad Bhagavat accessible to every Odia household.
Noting that youth play a key role in society’s development, he said learning the teachings of Bhagabata can guide young people toward moral, ethical, and spiritual growth.
Stating that the Srimad Bhagabat Mahotsav strengthens devotion, respect, and core values in society, Majhi said it encourages people to engage in righteous actions and fosters community development.
He said Srimad Bhagabat focuses on five key principles – God, life, nature, time, and karma which guide human conduct and universal order. Traditionally, listening to the Bhagavat is considered ideal throughout life.
Urging all citizens to read the Bhagabata daily, the CM said this practice leads to a healthy, ethical, and spiritually balanced life.
He also noted that such festivals promote unity, devotion, and respect among the community. The teachings of Bhagavat help in social, ethical, and religious development.
Since 2014, India has witnessed a cultural revival under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with initiatives such as the Ayodhya Ram Temple, Kumbh Mela, and pilgrimage corridors like Kashi Vishwanath and Mahakal.
Stating that every Hindu now proudly identifies with Sanatan heritage, he said Odisha is actively preserving Odia culture and traditions, providing financial support for temple maintenance and religious events.
Support ranges from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.1 lakh, covering festivals like Shitala Sasthi, Dhanuyatra, and other religious ceremonies. This ensures temple safety, upkeep, and beautification.
During the event, Baba Balia appreciated the government’s efforts. Swami Brahmanand Saraswati, coordinator of Dharma Jagruti Samiti, thanked the state for its support.
The Chief Minister urged everyone to spread the teachings of Srimad Bhagabata in every Odia home.
