Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced to sanction Rs 8 lakh to Rs 20 lakh for students’ welfare fund of each medical college and dental college in the state.
As per a notification of Health and Family Welfare department, issued on Tuesday, the fund is meant for meeting the expenses towards sports and cultural activities of the students of the institutions.
Every government medical college and SCB Dental College will form a committee to handle the expenditure of the fund. The committee will be headed by the principal, while administrative officer, advisor and members of the students’ union and accounts officer of the college will be the members.
The medical colleges, which are more than 5 years old, will get Rs 20 lakh each, while others will be sanctioned Rs 15 lakh each. Similarly, the PG institutes, SCB Dental College, SCB Mental Health Institute will be granted Rs 8 lakh each for their students’ welfare fund.
The students of these institutions have been demanding the government fund to meet the expenses for their various activities in the campus. Besides sports and cultural functions, the fund can be used for procuring sports kits and musical instruments and organising celebration of important state and national days, the notification stated.
