Odisha Govt To Set Up 14 RT-PCR Test Labs To Cover More Districts

Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to set up 14 more laboratories to help people of all the districts to undergo RT-PCT test for COVID-19.

Speaking to media persons here, on Wednesday, director, Health Services, Dr Bijay Mohapatra said the government has taken the decision keeping possible third wave of the disease in the state. “The new labs will not only prevent the people from travelling long distance for the test but also speed up the process,” he added.

Stating that the government was putting all possible measures in place to combat the third wave, Dr Mohapatra said tracing, testing and surveillance will play major role in this regard.

On the casualty due to the disease, he said the death figures provided by the Health Department is based on old audited reports and the real figures will be ascertained after the end of the pandemic.

While the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) in the state now stands at 2.01%, total 6,168 patients have succumbed to the disease so far.
