Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to set up a mega drinking water project in Kandhamal district.
This was stated by secretary (5T) to chief minister VK Pandian during a visit to the district on Friday. The project to be executed with a cost of Rs 499.91 crore will tap the water of river Mahanadi in Boudh district and supply it through pipes to households in Phulbani, Khajuriapada, Phiringia and Chakapada blocks, he added.
The secretary also said ongoing construction works of the medical college and hospital in the district will be completed by December this year. The MCH being built with a budget of Rs 1,000 crore will cater to healthcare needs of Kandhamal and neighbkuring districts.
He also reviewed the progress of construction works of a new bus stand at Phulbani and directed the officials to complete within deadline. The bus stand is coming up with a cost of Rs 5.29 crore.
Addressing the college students at Police Ground, he said the government has taken up 36 educational institutions in the district for transformation under 5T initiative with a budget of Rs 18.75 crore. The government has sanctioned Rs 7.5 crore for 11 degree colleges and Rs 11.25 crore for 25 higher secondary schools, he added.
Pandian also visited Maa Baraldevi temple in Khajuriapada and offered puja there. Following his interaction with the temple management, servitors and priests, he directed the district collector to submit a detailed project report for development of the shrine.
