Bhubaneswar: The state government will set up a memorial in the city for COVID warriors who succumbed to the disease on duty.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced this during a discussion with the families of the COVID warriors through video-conferencing on Thursday.
He said the exemplary courage shown by the COVID warriors in management of the pandemic and their supreme sacrifice will be long remembered.
“The government will always be with the families of the COVID warriors who lost their lives in line of duty. A memorial will be constructed in Bhubaneswar and names of the deceased COVID warriors inscribed on it,” Naveen said.
Speaking during the discussion, PK Mohapatra, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare said 101 COVID warriors have succumbed to the disease. The financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh for each bereaved family as announced by the Chief Minister has been provided to 96 families, he added.
