Bhubaneswar: As teaching in primary and upper primacy schools across Odisha remained crippled for the fifth day on Tuesday due to agitation by teachers, the state government urged them to withdraw the stir as their demands are being examined.
The government made the appeal to the Primary School Teachers’ Association as teaching in around 10,000 primary and upper primary schools in the state remained paralysed. The agitating teachers are on mass leave since September 8 demanding among other things job regularisation and pay hikes.
According to sources, the state government has constituted a five-member sub-committee to review the demands of the protesting teachers. The sub-committee has been asked to give its report to the inter-ministerial committee after examining the demands. The government will then take the final call on the teachers’ demands.
In view of the situation, the government has urged the teachers to withdraw their stir as the review process is in progress.
Stating that they had a positive round of discussion with the government which is sensitive to their demands, the teachers said a meeting of the steering committee will be held later in the day.
The future course of action will be decided by the agitating teachers as per the views of the steering committee, they said.
