Bhubaneswar: The state government has drawn the attention of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to violation of UGC guidelines on PG admission by some Central universities and sought his intervention.
In a letter to Pradhan on Thursday, Higher Education Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo said in order to ensure a uniform academic calendar in the entire country in view of the COVID-19 related dislocation, the University Grants Commission (UGC) had issued a guideline in July, 2021.
As per the UGC guidelines, all UG Final Year/Final Semester examinations have to be completed by August 31, admission to PG courses completed by September 30 and post-graduate (PG) classes commenced from October 1.
In compliance with the guidelines, all UG Final Year/Final Semester examinations have been completed in Odisha by August 31 and their results are expected to be published by September 15. In some cases, results have already been published, Sahoo said.
The Central universities should have allowed the students to submit their UG Final Year/Final Semester results/mark sheets upto end of September.
“It seems some Central universities have deviated from the UGC-prescribed datelines and completed their admission process in August. It has debarred the students of Odisha from taking admission as they could not submit their UG Final Year/Final Semester mark sheets,” Sahoo said.
“I would request you to kindly instruct those Central Universities to give time upto September-end for the students to submit their UG Final Year/ Final Semester mark sheets so that no meritorious student is debarred from taking admission in Central Universities,” the state minister said.
