Bhubaneswar: Amid reports of an Odisha native being held captive by Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan, the Odisha government on Tuesday urged the Indian Government and the Ministry of External Affairs to take immediate steps for his safe release.
Notably, Adarsh Kumar Behera from Jagatsinghpur district was reportedly kidnapped by RSF in Al Fashir of the conflict-torn Sudan.
After learning about the incident from media reports, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi directed senior officials to take immediate action. As per his instructions, the Director General of Intelligence wrote to the Ministry of External Affairs requesting intervention to secure Adarsh’s release.
The state’s Resident Commissioner in New Delhi also contacted the Ministry, seeking coordination with the Indian Embassy in Sudan for timely updates and safe repatriation.
Adarsh, a resident of Kotakana village under Tirtol police station, has been working in Sudan since 2022. His family recently reported that he has gone missing and no information about his whereabouts has been found so far.
The Chief Minister has assured the family that all necessary measures are being taken to resolve the situation.
