Bhubaneswar: The excise revenue of Odisha government has gone up by 3 times in 10 years. This was revealed from the reply of Excise Minister Aswini Kumar Patra in the Assembly on Tuesday.
Replying to a question from BJP MLA Kusum Tete, the Minister said the excise revenue has increased from Rs 1094.38 crore in 2010-11 financial year to Rs 6455.06 crore in 2022-23, registering a growth of around 3 times in 10 years.
As per the minister’s reply, the state’s excise revenue was Rs 1780.29 crore in financial year 2013-14, Rs 2038.79 crore in 2014-15, Rs 2568.68 crore in 2015-16, Rs 2786.25 crore in 2016-17, Rs 3221.03 crore in 2017-18, Rs 3925.41 crore in 2018-19, Rs 4495.52 crore in 2019-20, Rs 4053.51 crore in 2020-21 and Rs 5528.41 crore in 2021-22.
According to Patra, the government has earned excise revenue of Rs 4,897 crore till December 31, 2023 in financial year 2023-24.
Similarly, narcotic products including brown sugar, ganja, opium and other contrabands worth Rs 63.45 crore were seized in 2022-23 financial year. While 31.79 kg of brown sugar was seized, ganja weighing over 42,000 kg, 1,595 kg opium and 7,335 litre of cough syrup were seized during the year, the minister said.
