Puri: Anti-corruption Vigilance wing of Odisha apprehended the head clerk in the district sub-registrar’s office in Puri on Wednesday for allegedly taking Rs 5,000 bribe from a man to release power attorney in his favour.
The accused, identified as Raghunath Bisoi, had earlier demanded Rs 10,000 from the complainant in order to release power of attorney in his favour owing to illness of his father.
However, when the complainant expressed his inability to pay Rs 10,000, the accused reduced the bribe amount to Rs 5000, a Vigilance release said.
The accused was trapped by officers of Vigilance while accepting bribe of Rs 5000 from the complainant. The entire bribe money has been recovered and seized from exclusive possession of accused Bisoi.
A case has been registered and investigation is in progress against the accused, it said.
