Odisha Health University Likely To Start This Year; Check Details

Bhubaneswar: The proposed Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS) is likely to start functioning from December 2022.

Medical colleges in the state are now governed by general universities. Odisha is perhaps the only state where medical colleges are affiliated to general universities.

Once OUHS starts functioning, all medical colleges in the state will be affiliated to it in a phased manner after their de-affiliation from general universities. The entire process will take about six months.

The state government has begun the process to identify a suitable site for OUHS nearly six months after the Assembly cleared the Odisha University of Health Sciences Act, 2021 Bill, TNIE reported.

A meeting of the Health and Family Welfare, General Administration and Revenue and Disaster Management departments has been called to decide on the location.

Dr Datteswar Hota, Dean and Principal of SCB Medical College and Hospital, was last month appointed Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to oversee the initial functioning of the university.

Over 100 medical colleges in the state will be affiliated to OUHS and a uniform syllabus introduced in all these institutions.
