Odisha Heatwave: Orange-Yellow Warning For 5 Days; Bhubaneswar Sizzles With 44.4 Degree At 2.30 PM

Bhubaneswar: Normal life was thrown out of gear in most parts of Odisha on Friday due to blistering heatwave conditions coupled with high levels of humidity. No respite from the scorching heat is expected soon with the MeT Centre forecasting harsher days ahead.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued ‘orange and yellow’ warning for heatwave in different districts of Odisha over the next five days.

Amid soaring temperatures across the state, capital city of Bhubaneswar as well as Sambalpur recorded 44.4 degree Celsius by 2:30 pm today. Jharsuguda town was the hottest place in the state as the maximum temperature shot up to 44.6 degrees by 2:30 pm. Hirakud recorded 43.8 degree Celsius.

The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said that there will be no large change in the maximum temperature (Day temperature) during next four days and slight fall in temperature is likely to occur thereafter at many places.

“The maximum temperature is very likely to be above normal by 4 to 7 degree C at a few places over the districts of Odisha during next four days. Consequently hot and discomfort weather is likely to prevail during next 4-5 days,” it said in a bulletin.

Therefore, people are advised to take precautionary measure (avoid heat exposure, keep cool and avoid dehydration) while going outside during day time between 11 am and 3 pm.

The MeT Centre issued orange and yellow warnings about heatwave to severe heatwave for the following districts till June 20:
