Sambalpur: The Hirakud Dam authorities have opened 20 sluice gates of the reservoir to release floodwater.
The water level has reached an alarming level in the reservoir following incessant rainfall in the upper catchments of Mahanadi river.
The average inflow and outflow of water were recorded at 6,56,006 cusecs/second and 3, 35, 658 cusecs/second respectively around 6 am on Friday
It was 9,39,000 lakh cusecs per second at Kharimal, 6,10,000 lakh cusecs per second at Barmul and 7,54,385 lakh cusecs per second at Mundali.
Till Thursday evening, the dam authorities were releasing floodwater through 16 sluice gates.
