Bhubaneswar: Hitting out at the BJD government for alleged police inaction in Archana Nag honeytrap case, opposition Congress and BJP on Tuesday demanded probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to book the high-profile people involved in the racket.
Terming the lady blackmailer case as a major sex scandal in the state, senior Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati alleged that police is taking no action as many Ministers, MLAs belonging to the ruling BJD and officers are linked to Archana.
Alleging that there is an attempt to suppress the case, he said police which often convenes press meets to share information about small cases remains silent over Archana blackmailing case which involves a scam to the tune of Rs 70 crore.
Demanding that a special investigation team (SIT) headed by a sitting High Court judge be formed to probe the case, the senior Congress legislator said that truth will come to fore only through such a probe.
“Many leaders are linked to Archana. Police are not taking any action because Ministers, MLAs and officers are involved. The matter must be investigated by a SIT headed by a sitting HC judge,” he said.
The Congress would raise the issue in the upcoming session of the state Assembly, Bahinipati said, adding that girls from Kolkata, Japan and London were being brought to run the honeytrap racket.
Attacking the BJD government in the same vein, senior BJP leader Babu Singh sought to know as to why the police is silent about investigation into the sex racket run by Archana.
Seeking a high-level probe into the racket, he said many leaders of BJD had links with the woman whose husband happens to be a member of the ruling party. Both Archana and her husband were in constant touch with BJD leaders, Singh claimed and accused the ruling BJD of trying to derail investigation.
