Odisha Horror: Minor Girls Go Missing, Turn Up Dead

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is turning into an unsafe haven for minor girls with several cases of alleged kidnappings, murders and rapes being reported in recent times.

In the latest such incident, the body of a seven-year-old girl named Neuli, who had been reportedly missing since Friday, was found near a pond at Sundarkoili near Baliapal in Balasore district on Monday morning.

The girl’s family told police that she was living at her uncle’s house at Sundarkoili. She was last seen playing with her friends around 9 am last Friday and then went missing.

Police said they have detained a youth for interrogation on suspicion of his involvement in the case. The exact cause of death can be ascertained after the post mortem, police added.

3-Year-Old Untraceable

A three-year-old girl went missing while she was playing near her house at Dadhipatna under Ranpur block in Nayagarh district on Friday.

Physically-Challenged Minor Raped

Police arrested an auto-rickshaw driver for allegedly raping a physically-challenged minor girl in Jagatsinghpur town last Wednesday. The victim’s family had lodged a complaint with Sadar police station in Jagatsinghpur district after the girl narrated her ordeal to them.

Cousin Rapes Minor

Police arrested a minor boy earlier this month and sent him to juvenile home for allegedly raping his younger sister in Sundargarh district.

According to sources, the girl belonging to Kadamdahi under Koira police limits revealed during the counselling that she was raped by the son of her father’s elder brother several times.

The matter came to light after the girl’s parents found that she was pregnant. Thy then lodged a police complaint.

Raped & Poisoned

A minor girl of Nilagiri area in Balasore district was allegedly poisoned after being raped by an unidentified man in November.

The 13-year-old was rushed to a hospital where she died. According to a complaint lodged at Nilagiri police station, she was raped by a miscreant when she went out of her house to meet her parents who work at a brick kiln. Police are on the lookout for the accused.

Missing For 5 Months

A two-year-old girl has been missing from Madhusudanpur in Binjharpur police station area in Jajpur district for the past five months. Shubhalakhmi (Pihu) went missing while playing in the village in early August. Police have not been able to trace her as yet.

Pari Murder Case

Five-year-old Pari had gone missing while she was playing in front her house at Jadupur village of Nayagarh district in July this year. Later, her skeletal remains were found dumped in the backyard of her house.

The incident has triggered political battle in the state after Pari’s parents accused Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo of shielding the prime suspect in the case identified as Babuli Nayak.
