Bhubaneswar: Former Bargarh MP from Congress Sanjay Bhoi joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in bypoll-bound Padampur in presence of state president Samir Mohanty and senior leaders of the saffron party – Suresh Pujari, KV Singh Deo and Jayanarayan Mishra, here on Thursday.
The event was organised at Padampur Purohit Kalyan Mandap.
Bhoi said that he did not get an opportunity while being in Congress to serve people. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s working style, he, therefore, decided to join the BJP.
An IT professional by education, Sanjay was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bargarh constituency in 2009 as a Congress nomiee. He defeated his nearest rival Radharani Panda of the BJP by over one lakh votes. He, however, was pushed to the 3rd position in the 2014 Lok sabha election.
He is son of 4-time Lok Sabha member late Krupasindhu Bhoi. Since he belongs to the Kulta community, sources said that his joining can win the party some Kulta votes in the ensuing Padampur bypoll scheduled on December 5.
