Bhubaneswar: Senior IAS officer Sanjay Kumar Singh, currently serving as Principal Secretary in Odisha’s Works Department, is likely to move to his home state of Bihar on inter-cadre deputation.

The process for his transfer has reported to have begun as the Union Government has sought a vigilance report from the Odisha government through a letter dated October 22, 2026. The development indicates Singh may move to Bihar, where he had previously served for around seven years on inter-cadre deputation.

The 1997-batch IAS officer, had earlier served in Bihar from February 2008 to February 2015. He held several key administrative positions, including District Magistrate and Collector of Patna and Gaya. He also served as Additional Secretary in Bihar’s Home Department and held important assignments in the Chief Minister’s Office.

His previous stint in Bihar included serving as Special Secretary and Secretary to the Chief Minister, positions that placed him at the centre of the state’s administrative machinery.

A postgraduate in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, Singh has held several important positions in the Odisha Government during his career. His assignments include Principal Secretary of the Rural Development Department and the Information and Public Relations Department, Commissioner of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), and Vice-Chairman of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA).

He has also served as Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Skill Development and Technical Education Department and Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO).

Singh’s return to Bihar, however, is yet to be formally confirmed. The vigilance report sought by the Centre is part of the process currently underway, and further steps will depend on the completion of the requisite formalities.
