Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the Income Tax Superintendent of Bhadrak in Od
isha for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹4,000.
The accused official, identified as Ramesh Kumar Mohanty, had allegedly demanded illegal gratification of ₹5,000 from the complainant to process the cancellation of a duplicate PAN card.
Following the demand, the aggrieved individual refused to pay and instead lodged a formal complaint with the central anti-corruption agency. Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap at the official’s office. Mohanty was caught red-handed by the agency’s sleuths while accepting the negotiated sum of ₹4,000 from the complainant.
The CBI confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused officer under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation is underway.
