Odisha Information Service Officer Suspended For Poll Code Violation

Bhubaneswar: An Odisha Information Service (OIS) officer, Tanuja Mohanty, has been suspended for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct, which is in force for the high-stakes by-election to the Nuapada Assembly constituency.

“In pursuance of clause (a) of sub-rule (1) of Rule 12 of the Orissa Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1962, pending drawal of disciplinary proceeding. Smt. Tanuja Mohanty, OIS-II is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect on the ground of violation of enforced Model Code of Conduct for Bye- Election -2025 to 71-Nuapada Assembly Constituency,” read the notification issued by the I&PR department.

This followed an investigation ordered by the ECI on the basis of allegations of BJD and Congress, accusing Mohanty of promoting a specific party on social media. The department proceeded with disciplinary action after an instruction from the state election commission.

Mohanty will be based at the state headquarters in Bhubaneswar during the suspension period. She has been instructed not to leave headquarters without prior permission from the competent authority and must report daily to the Director (Technical), I&PR Department, it added.
