Bhubaneswar: The process to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the establishment of the proposed Odisha Cyber Command Centre (O3C) of the state police has stated.
The state police geared up for setting up the state-of-the-art centre after the state government recently announced the centralised facility in a bid to strengthen cybersecurity.
Taking quick steps to implement the ambitious project, the police authorities have invited applications from IT consultancy firms to prepare the DPR for the proposed O3C as well as 20 new cyber police stations across the state.
At present there are 14 cyber police stations in the state and the establishment of 20 more stations will bolster the capacity to counter cybercrime and economic offences, a senior police official said, adding that the cyber command centre in Bhubaneswar will play a key role in coordinating investigations.
The O3C will serve as the state’s central cyber infrastructure, a TOI report said. The centre will comprise three main components: the cybercrime investigation headquarters, the state cybercrime police station and the cyber resource centre.
This apart, the state police have launched capacity-building programmes for the personnel. Training in cybercrime investigation and cyber intelligence has already begun at the state level, while plans are afoot to conduct similar exercise in districts. The aim is to equip police personnel at all levels with the skills required to combat increasingly sophisticated cybercriminals.
The move comes in view of an alarming rise in digital crimes such as financial fraud, phishing scams, data breaches, and ‘digital arrests’ targeting vulnerable people.
