Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Friday granted interim bail of seven days to Chilika MLA Prasant Jagadev, who was arrested for recklessly ploughing his SUV into a crowd last month, on health grounds.
He is lodged at Banapur Sub-Jail since March 22, when he was arrested after being discharged from a hospital and produced in the Court of JMFC, Banapur, which rejected his bail plea and remanded him to judicial custody.
The MLA had sustained grievous injuries on March 12 as an irate mob assaulted him soon after he rammed his car into the crowd outside a block development office in Odisha’s Khurda district, which was a grim reminder of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. He was then admitted to a private hospital here.
On March 29, Jagadev was shifted to Capital Hospital here after he complained of illness while in jail.
However, the Banapur Assistant Sessions Judge on March 31 refused him bail.
An attempt to murder case along with other charges has been slapped against him.
