Bhubaneswar: In a clear acknowledgment of Odisha’s success in disaster management initiatives, the united nation has invited the State to deliver a keynote address at a United Nation meet in Bangkok on August 26.
Bishnupada Sethi, who is the managing director of OSDMA will deliver his address at UN’s Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP) Disaster Resilience Week on Monday.
“The success the State has achieved is not the work of a day or month but of continuous endeavour for over 20 years. Disaster resilience can be built through empowerment, inclusion, shared understanding and joint strategic action plan among the nations in the Asia Pacific region,” Sethi said while interacting with media here.
In his keynote address, Sethi will stress upon greater cooperation among the nations in the Asia-Pacific region in improving the disaster management system.
The Naveen Patnaik administration had come in for praise from the international community including the UN for the handling of cyclone Fani and its disaster management plan which helped restrict the death toll.
