Odisha ITI College Principal, Lecturer Detained Over Assault On Students

Baripada: Principal and a lecturer of a private ITI College under Kuliana police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district were detained by police on Wednesday after some students accused the former’s brother of beating them up over a goof-up in the form fill-up.

The action was taken on the basis of a complaint lodged by the students against both the principal and his younger brother at Kuliana police station. The students also walked miles to the district collector’s office in the wee hours and apprised him of the incident.

The principal’s younger brother, however, has been absconding after the incident.

According to sources, the students of Electrical and Fitter trades received wrong admit cards before their examination. The students reported the matter to the college authorities. Instead of solving the issue, the authorities asked them to appear in the examination with the wrong admit cards.

Irate over this, some students staged a protest in front of the college. The younger brother of Principal Trilochan Barik went to the spot and allegedly beat up the agitating students. The students were also reportedly asked to vacate the hostel.
