Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday announced free treatment to the Class IX boy, who sustained critical injuries after a javelin pierced through his neck during a sports event at Agalpur Panchayat High School in Odisha’s Balangir district, will be met from CMRF.
While expressing concern over the incident, the CM directed to provide better treatment to the boy and assistance for the treatment will be met from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian also spoke to Balangir Collector and enquired about the condition of the boy and directed for all support, sources said.
The incident took place while the students were practising different sports before the commencement of the annual sports event. The javelin pierced into Class IX student Sadanand Meher’s neck and got stuck below his chin.
Meher was rushed to the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in critical condition for immediate treatment. A special medical team has been formed to remove the javelin and the operation is underway, sources added.
Meanwhile, the family members of the victim held the school authorities responsible for the incident.
