Odisha Jeweller Held By Kolkata Police Over Non-Payment For Gold Purchased

Bargarh: A prominent gold merchant in Odisha’s Bargarh district was taken into custody by Kolkata Police in connection with alleged default in payment for gold.

The jeweller, identified as Hemant Verma, is the owner of Danwar Jewellers in Bargarh. He was nabbed with the assistance of Bargarh town police following complaints lodged by several jewellers in Kolkata.

As per police

sources, Verma had allegedly purchased gold jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees from traders in Kolkata but failed to make payment. It was stated that he regularly sourced gold jewellery from Kolkata and sold it in Bargarh. Several traders approached the police, alleging that payments for the supplied jewellery remained unpaid despite repeated reminders.

Based on the complaints, a team of Kolkata Police traced Verma’s location to Bargarh and apprehended him with the help of local police late Friday night. He was produced before a court shortly thereafter and was taken to Kolkata for further legal proceedings.

It was claimed that Verma had been asked on several occasions to settle the outstanding dues but he failed to comply. Further investigation is in progress.
