Odisha: Jharsuguda Woman Loses Rs 1.69 Lakh To Fake KBC Call

Bhubaneswar: A young woman of Belpahar in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district fell prey to a Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) lottery fraud and lost Rs 1.69 lakh in the scam. Though the girl received calls in January she learnt about the fraud only recently and lodged a complaint at Belpahar police station on March 2.

As per reports, the girl identified as Neeta Chhatar had received a call from an unknown number on January 23 in which the caller identified himself as a member of KBC and informed her that she had won a lottery prize of Rs 35 lakh.

On inquiry by the girl as to how she won the lottery when she had not participated, the called informed that her name was picked up by SIM number. He asked her to provide bank account details and Aadhaar card details, which she shared. “The caller had also mocked her saying even vegetable vendors are paying huge sums to get Rs 35,000 lakh cash prize,” she said.

Neeta was asked to pay Rs 18,000 towards processing fee and income tax, which she did. She was again asked to pay more money as other charges and she paid Rs 35,000, Rs 36,000 and Rs 40,000 twice. After making these transactions, she learnt that the caller was cheating.

The girl’s grandmother said she had saved the money from her hard work but now the scamsters have taken it all.
