Odisha Journalist Critical After Knife Attack, Shifted To Visakhapatnam

Nabarangpur: A journalist sustained critical injuries in a brutal attack by an alleged drug-addict at Papadahandi in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on Friday night.

The victim has been identified as Sumit Kumar Ghanta of Papadahandi village.

According to sources, one Harekrushna Behera of Banka Sahi, allegedly in an inebriated condition, attacked the journalist with a sword near Bhabani Chhak at around 11 pm while he was returning home from Nabarangpur. As Ghanta overpowered the assailant, the latter used a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds to his abdomen and chest.

He was rushed to Papadahandi Community Health Centre and later shifted to district headquarters hospital (DHH) here from where he was referred to a hospital in Visakhapatnam for advanced treatment.

The locals, who came to his rescue, also caught hold of the attacker and beat him up before handing him over to police. He too was admitted to DHH for treatment.

Sources further stated that the attack might be an act of revenge, as Ghanta had previously reported the accused’s drug-related activities to the police.
