Dhenkanal: Forest officials on Wednesday rescued a wild elephant, which got stuck in a canal under Mahabirod forest range in Dhenkanal district.
Locals spotted the pachyderm stuck in the canal and informed the Forest Department.
According to sources, the elephant fell into the canal after attacking one Panchanan Sahu of Chandpur village while he was working at a farmland early this morning. It accidentally fell into the canal while crossing it. It failed to come out of it despite repeated attempts.
A rescue operation was launched, following which, the elephant was rescued and later released into Mahabirod Forest Range, the sources added.
