Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance sleuths on Saturday arrested a junior engineer (JE) of Dhenkanal district on bribe charge. The engineer was arrested on similar charge in Koraput in 2018.
According to a Vigilance release, a complaint was filed that Rashmiranjan Behera, Junior Engineer, Hindol in Dhenkanal district was demanding Rs 1,500 as bribe for release of last amount of instalment towards construction of PMAY house in favour of the complainant’s mother.
Based on the complaint, the Vigilance laid a trap and nabbed Rashmiranjan while accepting the bribe money from the complainant in his office room at Hindol. The money was recovered from the possession of Behera and seized in presence of witnesses.
He was arrested and is being forwarded to the court. Cuttack Vigilance has registered a case under Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 in this regard.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the residential house of Behera at Bajuria in Dhenkanal and his office room at Hindol.
Behera was arrested by Koraput Vigilance for accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 in 2018. Besides, he is also involved in a disproportionate assets case filed by Koraput Vigilance.
