Rourkela: Several migrant labourers from Odisha are allegedly stuck at a brick kiln in Banaras in Uttar Pradesh and tortured to work.
The matter came to light after one of the labourers, Jitu Oram, managed to escape from the kiln and returned to Rourkela.
According to sources, Jitu and eight other labourers from Gopabandhupali area in Rourkela were lured by a middleman, identified as Babul Singh, who assured them of providing work in Uttar Pradesh.
However, the labourer were tortured and made to work at gunpoint.
Rourkela labour officer Pranab Kumar Patra has said that steps will be taken to rescue the labourers from Uttar Pradesh.
