Odisha Launches Luxury Caravans; Check Tourist Destinations Covered

Bhubaneswar: Odisha launched the second phase of its luxury caravan tourism service from the historic Dhauli hills on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, offering travellers the thrill of exploring the state with star-hotel-like comfort on wheels in a move to boost tourism.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida flagged off three luxury caravans under the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme, marking a new chapter in the state’s tourism offerings. Earlier, two luxury caravans were flagged off on January 25 on the occasion of Magha Saptami.

The caravans promise modern and comfortable facilities, including beds, kitchens, and washrooms, ensuring tourists can enjoy travel without depending on hotels. The service aims to attract young travellers, nature lovers, and adventure enthusiasts by combining leisure with exploration.

Deputy CM Parida highlighted that caravan tourism will add a new dimension to Odisha’s travel experience. She said the initiative will appeal to tourists seeking adventure and eco-friendly journeys, while also supporting local

tourism economies.

The 6-seater tour buses will operate in 9 destinations across Odisha in the first phase including Hirakud, Debrigarh, Similipal, Chilika, Satkosia, Bhitarkanika and Deomali. The caravan service, run by Sand Pebbles Tour and Travels in association with the state Tourism department, is designed to attract both domestic and international tourists seeking unique travel experiences.

Each caravan features air-conditioned interiors, plush seating, sleeping arrangements, a kitchenette and hygienic washrooms, ensuring that tourists can enjoy long journeys without compromising on comfort. The service promises a blend of adventure and luxury, allowing travelers to explore Odisha’s scenic landscapes, heritage sites, and cultural hubs at their own pace.

The service was flagged off from Dhauli to highlight Odisha’s rich cultural heritage while promoting innovative tourism models. Officials emphasised that caravan tourism will complement existing eco-tourism and heritage tourism projects in the state.

The caravans are designed with safety and sustainability in mind featuring GPS tracking, fire safety equipment and eco-friendly waste disposal systems. The tourism department assured that strict protocols will be followed to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for travellers. Odisha plans to expand caravan tourism services to other key destinations across the state, including coastal stretches, wildlife sanctuaries and tribal hinterlands.
