Bhubaneswar: The Odisha legislative council issue took a new turn on Friday as the state Assembly Speaker countered the Centre’s contention that it had not received any resolution in this regard.
Speaking to the media persons, here, Speaker Sujya Narayan Patro said it is shocking to know the Central government’s statement that it had not received any resolution passed by Odisha Assembly on setting up Legislative Council.
Patro said the Assembly had passed a resolution on establishment of the Legislative Council in the state on September 18, 2018 and sent it to the Centre, requesting to pass a resolution on the matter.
The Assembly’s resolution was submitted to Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and secretary, ministries of Parliamentary Affairs and Law, he added.
On Thursday, Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju said as per record no resolution had been received to create Legislative Council in Odisha. He was giving a written reply to a question from BJD MP Prasanna Acharya in the Rajya Sabha.
