Bhubaneswar: The test positivity rate (TPR) dropped below 5% even as Odisha reported over 1000 new COVID cases for 2nd consecutive on Thursday with 1,030 people being found infected in the last 24 hours.
The state had seen a huge spike in infections as the daily caseload jumped to 1,174 on Wednesday from 662 the day before. The TPR also spiralled to 5.46% from 3.69%.
According to the I & PR department, 603 of the new positives are from quarantine and 427 local transmission cases. Among them, 179 are in the age group of 0-18 years. The new infections have been reported from 27 districts as against all 30 districts the previous day. Sundargarh led the tally with 227 cases followed by Khurda with 164 and Malkangiri with 110 cases.

With these cases being detected from 20,813 samples, the TPR stood at 4.94%. Odisha now has 6,974 active cases.
