Bhubaneswar: Senior BJP legislator and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jaynarayan Mishra on Thursday challenged ruling BJD on the allegation of misconduct to a woman police official by saying that he would quit politics if it is proved in court.
Speaking during zero hour in the Assembly, Mishra made a scathing attack on Minister Pramila Mallik for alleging his involvement in the conspiracy to murder minister Naba Kishore Das in Jharsuguda. The government was trying to influence the investigation into the case with its minister issuing misleading statements, he said.
On the allegation of misbehavior towards a woman police official, Mishra said if his misconduct is proved in the court, he would quit politics.
Taking the fight to BJD, the BJP leader said 46 MLAs of the ruling party are facing criminal cases. Around 180 cases are pending against its MLAs. “Out of these MLAs, six are facing murder charges while two are facing dacoity case and four are accused in theft cases. Similarly, four legislators have been booked in bribery case while 28 MLAs are facing threatening and five others molestation cases. A rape case is also pending against one BJD MLA,” he said.
Stating that criminal cases were a part of life for a political leader, he said it cannot be said that the accused are guilty. It is upto the court to decide the cases. “If I am involved in any criminal case, I am ready to face police investigation and court proceeding,” he added.
