Odisha Loses 54 Frontline Workers In Battle Against COVID-19

Bhubaneswar: The battle against COVID-19 in Odisha has seen 139121 infections and 591 deaths.

According to a report in the Times of India, 54 frontline workers have so far succumbed to the disease and among them, 11 were doctors and as many teachers.

The report further said that half of these deaths have been reported in the last one month.

The virus has infected 6,329 frontline workers and they include doctors, nurses, paramedics, teachers, ASHA and Anganwadi workers and other government employees. While 4,351 have recovered, 1,924 are still under treatment, according to data released by the Health Department.

More than 1200 of these cases are from Bhubaneswar alone.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has also expressed concern over rising infection among COVID warriors and government employees. He had directed for stricter compliance of COVID norms in government offices.

Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in Khurda and Cuttack districts in the last 10 days, the CM on Wednesday directed officials to increase the number of ICU beds in COVID hospitals and deploy more ambulances.

According to government sources, ICU occupancies in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar is more than 90 per cent.
