Bhubaneswar: The well-marked low-pressure area has moved west-northwest and intensified into a depression over the Bay of Bengal, the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
According to MeT office, the well-marked low-pressure area concentrated into depression over coastal Odisha and adjoining areas of northwest Bay of Bengal near 20.8°N latitude and 85.6°E longitude, about 70 km north-northwest of Bhubaneswar.
It is likely to move gradually west-northwestwards and then weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area over Chhattisgarh and the neighbourhood by Wednesday.
Notably, the IMD has issued a red warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall at some places in Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, and Keonjhar till 8.30 am on Wednesday.
An orange warning has also been sounded for Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur districts during the same duration. Likewise, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khurda, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Puri, and Rayagada may experience heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
