Cuttack: The Inspector-in-Charge of Mahanga police station Nihar Ranjan Mohanty on Friday appeared before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court, Salepur in connection with double murder case.
The court had issued notice to the IIC in connection with the murder of former Mahanga block Chairman and BJP leader Kulamani Baral along with his associate Dibyasingha Baral.
The JMFC Court had earlier issued a show-cause notice to the IIC seeking explanation by December 10 as as to why action should not be taken against him as per CrPC for not appearing before it.
He was also issued a notice for not submitting the reinvestigation status report and Call Detail Records (CDRs) of the accused in the case.
On November 20, the court had expressed displeasure over the slow pace of investigation into the double murder that had taken place on January 2. Law Minister Pratap Jena’s name was also named in the FIR.
Based on the petition filed by Ramakant, son of deceased Kulamani Baral, the court had directed Mahanga policeto re-investigate and submit status report and CDRs of the accused persons by November 25.
On November 25, IIC sought more time following which the court expressed displeasure and directed him to submit an updated case diary of the reinvestigation by November 29.
Challenging the decision of JMFC Court, Mahanga police had filed the petition in the Additional District Cum Sessions Judge (ADJ), Salepur. However, the Court on Wednesday had rejected the revision petition.
