Bhubaneswar: Five persons were run over by the 11020 Bhubaneswar-CST Mumbai Konark Express near Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh on Monday. One of them was from Bhanjanagar in Odisha’s Ganjam district. Two others were from Assam, railway sources said.
The victims were travelling in the 12515 Coimbatore-Silcher Express and had got down by pulling the chain, which is illegal, between Sigadam and Chipurupalli stations on the Visakhapatnam-Palasa main line.
They were crossing the tracks when they were run over by the Konark Express, which was going towards Mumbai.
An injured passenger was shifted by train to the Srikakulam Road station, from where he was transported to hospital by ambulance.
Top railway officials are monitoring the situation.
