Cuttack: The Cyber and Economic Offences police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly uploading morphed photos of a minor girl on a fake Instagram account.
The accused has been identified as Dinesh Kumar Sethi alias Babu of Pattamundai in Kendrapada district. He had worked in Delhi, Bengaluru and Maharashtra as a labourer.
Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra told the media on Thursday that a 19-year-old youth of Tulasipur lodged a complaint on October 3, alleging that a fake Instagram account in the name of his 17-year-old sister had been created and her morphed pictures posted on it. The complainant further alleged the accused had posted morphed photos of other girls as well on the platform.
The accused was identified though analysis of technical data obtained from Instagram during the investigation, which revealed that he followed Instagram account of girls, who have public IDs, chatted with them and managed to collect their personal contact number. He then saved their uploaded photos in his phone and posted those after editing them with obscene language on the fake IDs opened by him in the names of the girls.
“The accused demanded money from the victims to delete the morphed photos. He has committed similar offence with more than 100 girls with an intention to harass and blackmail them,” the DCP added.
