Cuttack: Santosh Kumar Dalai, an employee at Odisha State Maritime Museum here, has developed a folding environment-friendly electric scooter, which can be carried as ease and help to reduce traffic congestion.
The scooter resembles the ones used by San-Francisco based startups such as Bird, Spin and LimeBike. Santosh has however built it using parts from motorcycle, bicycle and trolley rickshaw. His folding scooter runs on batteries and can cover a distance of 18-20 kilometres. It weighs 15 kg and takes around 2 hours to fully recharge.
Santosh came upon this idea as he wanted to create a handy device which he could carry while travelling in bus. He is working on a turbine technology to further develop his innovation.
In USA, such electric folding scooters ride sharing is available in 33 cities. Lime has recently raised 335 million USD and has teamed up with Uber to improve last mile connectivity.
