Dhenkanal: New Year celebrations took a tragic turn for a family after a 28-year-old man was beaten to death while on his way to buy chicken at Basoi village under Parjang police limits in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Sethi.
The accused, Saroj Biswal (35) alias Maku, attacked Sethi with a bamboo stick while the latter was returning home in the afternoon. He then dismembered his body using an axe. Biswal also tried to attack Sethi’s wife and their two sons, when they came to his help but they somehow managed to escape, according to villagers.
On being informed, a police team led by Kamakhyanagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Gyana Ranjan Mishra and Parjang IIC Priyabrata Das reached the spot and initiate a probe into the incident being attributed to past enmity. A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused, who absconded after committing the crime.
His wife told the media that Sethi, who earlier worked as a driver, had been at home for last two months after a tragic accident. “He could not walk properly as irons rods were fixed inside his legs. He went to buy chicken after my mother transferred Rs 300. Maku chased and beat him to death and threatened us as pleaded with him to leave him,” she said.
