Bhubaneswar: A special POCSO court in Khurda district sentenced a man to five years of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to rape his 13-year-old foster daughter.
The convict, Bishnu Mahapatra of Balugaon area, was also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 by the court.
In
case he fails to pay up, the convict will undergo an additional term of imprisonment.
According to case records, Mahapatra had married his widowed sister-in-law following the death of his elder brother a few years ago. He allegedly attempted to rape his minor foster daughter two years ago.
A case was registered and an investigation launched after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint at Balugaon police station.
The court convicted Mahapatra after examining the witnesses and evidence gathered by the police during the investigation.
After examining the witnesses and evidence gathered by police, the court convicted the accused and handed him five-year jail term.
