Bhubaneswar: Sambalpur Police have arrested a person for allegedly issuing death threats to senior BJP leader and Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra.
The accused has been identified as Bijay Nanda Sahoo (51) of Puri.
According to sources, Sahoo had been abusing and threatening to kill the BJP leader for the last one-and-a half years but the latter never took those seriously. The accused was reportedly aggrieved over his statements in the Assembly against former chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
A BJP member, Sushanta Purohit, lodged a complaint in this regard at Sambalpur Town police station on Thursday. The contact number of the accused was also mentioned in the FIR.
On the basis of the complaint, police launched a probe, apprehended the man threatening the MLA and seized his phone. He has confessed to have abused the MLA, police said.
