Bhubaneswar: An Indonesian woman has overcome social and cultural barriers to marry a man from Odisha she met on Facebook and fell in love with.
The man in question is Wasim Khan, a resident of Kantabanjhi in Balangir district. The woman is Anna Mariana Napitapulla of Indonesia.
According to sources, Wasim and Anna had first met on Facebook in 2013. They soon became friends and subsequently fell in love. A year later, the two decided to get married and took the consent of their respective families to do so.
After marriage, Anna initially faced hardships in adjusting to a new country and culture. But the support of her husband and his family helped her overcome these barriers. Now, she speaks Odia and Hindi fluently and has also got along with the local Odia community.
