Odisha Man Opens Fire On Couple Over ‘Past Enmity’, Returns Home To Kill Wife



Phulbani: A man on Tuesday allegedly opened fire on a couple at Phulbani in Odisha’s Kandhamal district, critically injuring the husband, before returning home and fatally shooting his own wife.

The accused, identified as Biranchi Behera of Sarupada village under Krandibali panchayat, has been detained by police for questioning.

According to sources, Biranchi fired at Narottam Behera and his wife Suc

hitra Behera of Katapanga village under Gochhapada police station at around 9 am when they were on their way to a Jana Seva Kendra to update their Aadhaar cards. Narottam sustained two bullet injuries in his thigh, while Suchitra managed to escape unharmed.

Thereafter, Biranchi went home and allegedly shot his wife Lilima Behera dead. 
 

Narottam was rushed to the Community Health Centre in Gochhapada and was later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital here as his condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, Suchitra has filed a complaint at Gochhapada police station, alleging that Biranchi had attacked them over past enmity. Police have seized the gun used in the crime and sent Lilima’s body for postmortem. Biranchi is being questioned to ascertain the motive behind the firing, the sources added.
