Varanasi/Bhubaneswar: After enjoying a four-day luxurious stay at a 5-star hotel in Varanasi, a man from Odisha allegedly fled without paying bills mounting to Rs 2 lakh.
An FIR was lodged under Section 318(4) (cheating and fraud) against Sarthak Sanjay of Keonjhar in Odisha at Cantt police station on Monday evening.
According to Hotel Taj Ganges manager Rikhi Mukherjee, Sarthak checked in on November 14, feasted on food at the restaurant, but left on November 18 without paying the bills and has been unreachable since then.
When he was asked to checkout of the hotel by 11 am on the last day, he expressed displeasure and agreed to leave by 3 pm, asking not to include the next day in the bill. He then took a cab for sightseeing but didn’t return. His phone was also found switched off. Thereafter, the staff searched the room where he stayed and found nothing more than a few clothes, the TOI reported.
The complainant further alleged that the room charges for the four-day stay was Rs 1,67,796 and his food bills touched Rs 36,750, totalling to Rs 2,04,521.
A manhunt has also been launched to trace accused Sarthak Sanjay, a senior police officer of Varanasi Police said.
